The invention

Lumen uses a proprietary shape-memory alloy actuator to raise braille dots on a 40-cell display. Its power draw is measured in milliwatts, and the actuators are silent to touch.

Currently shipping to schools for the visually impaired in six countries, Lumen is opening a wait-list for consumer orders.
